The BIG Group

What started as mutual banter about being lazy, The Sluggard Blues, and of unfortunate attempts at matrimony, Three Wives Blues, ended up providing inspiration to write additional songs and bring together the musicians and singers now known as The BIG Group. The result of this experiment is the BIG Group’s first CD, Blues, Ballads, and Boogie.

If you like music and grow up in a big blues town like St. Louis, you are going to like the blues. St. Louis was also a popular destination for country music performers like George Jones, Merle Haggard, and Willie Nelson. Throw in a little western swing and boogie with the likes of Commander Cody and Asleep at the Wheel and you have the mix that has influenced the BIG Group.

It is not often that old friends and family can get together and bring new songs to life, nor is it often that a philosophy of life and song writing meld into one. It is even better when you just like hanging out together and having a cold beer on a hot summer night.

Freight Train Boogie is dedicated to Doc Watson (1923 – 2012) who was truly an American classic. Although no one can play it like Doc, we wanted to include it as a tribute to one of the great guitar players and performers of America traditional music.

I’ll Never Quit is dedicated to Magic Slim (1937 – 2013) who was one of the many great bluesmen to come out of Mississippi. Magic Slim never quit, even after losing a finger in a cotton gin accident and struggling early on in his career.

I hope you enjoy listening to the music as much as we enjoyed producing it. Enjoy Yourself!
